This week's assignment is from Elizabeth Janette: What's on your TBR pile? Welcome to those of you joining me from Collette Cameron. Doesn’t she have a pretty website? This assignment came at the perfect time for me, as Mr. C and I are heading out on holidays at the end of this week so I’ve been squirreling away books on my e-reader for those days on the beach. It’s quite an eclectic list, if I do say so myself. I am currently reading “Whose Body”, a Lord Peter Wimsey novel by Dorothy L. Sayers. These old fashioned mysteries have held up quite well over nine decades, and I always enjoy re-reading them. Then, waiting on my e-reader are: Good Men (short story prequel to “Good in Bed”) - Jennifer Weiner: I haven’t read any of Weiner’s books before, but this was a freebie so I snagged it for a test run. The Dragon’s Heart – Eden Ashe: An urban fantasy by one of our very own Romance Writers Weekly members! Only 99 cents right now. Pillow Talk – Maya Banks: I’ve read Maya before, and this one sounds like fun for a holiday beach read A Duke of Her Own – Eloisa James: I love Regency romances. This will be a re-read for me. I first read it in 2012, but that was before I’d read the rest of EJ’s “Desperate Duchesses” series, so I’ll be coming at it from a whole new angle. The Collector – Nora Roberts: No holiday is complete without the newest La Nora. Sophia’s Secret – Susanna Kearsley: If you love Mary Stewart, you’ll love Canadian author Susanna Kearsley. She has the same deft touch of sweet romance and tingling romance. Can’t wait to read this one. My biggest problem right now – deciding where to start! Now, hop on over to Betty Bolte. You'll want to put her American history romances on your TBR pile!

Who's in for a new year of fun and games? This blog idea comes from Xio Axelrod.
A Day in the Life: What do you do when you’re not writing? (Could be a little about your day job, your hobbies, taking care of family, etc) If you’re joining me from Susan Scott Shelley, welcome! Wow – finally a blog topic where I don’t have to think! Here’s my Day in the Life: 6:00am: Alarm goes off. Don’t get out of bed until – 6:45am: Shower. Read while blow-drying hair. 7:00 – 8:00am: Read while waiting for coffee to drip. Read while eating breakfast. Read while getting dressed (except for brief second while head is popping through neck hole of shirt). 8:15am: Mr. C and I drop Only Son off at school. 8:20am: Arrive at Broadcast Centre. Mr. C and I head to our respective offices. 8:20 – 4:30pm: Yes, my husband and I work together. He is the General Manager of two radio stations and one TV station, of which I am the Television Production Manager. (Yes, he’s my boss) In a nutshell, I’m responsible for the behind-the-scenes technical side of most local commercials, programs, features, etc. I’ve only held this title since July, so I’m still learning every day. A lot of my time is spent preventing and resolving technical issues, which is NOT in my comfort zone. Thank goodness the rest of my time is spent writing and producing TV commercials, which I’ve done for more than 25 years (oh, god, I sound old). That’s where I get my creative fix. 5:00pm: Home. Make dinner. Clean up after dinner. 7:00 – 9:00pm: Now that my children are pretty much grown, I have a lot more free time in the evenings than I used to. This is when I do my writing, marketing, social media, etc. When I’m in the midst of a new manuscript, I try and get 500 words a day done. It may seem like a small amount, but it adds up nicely. I’ve finished 3 manuscripts in 3 years at that pace! 9:00 – 10:00pm: TV watching if there’s something good on (yes, I understand the irony of a TV Production Manager not watching TV). Otherwise, reading. 10:00 – 11:00pm: Take my book to bed with me. More reading, until my eyelids droop. Sleep. How does Betty Bolte spend her day? Find out here. |
