Carrie Elks says: It's Barbecue Season. Let's share some recipes - food or drink - that make outdoor eating fun! If you've joined me from Kathryn Renard, welcome! Kathryn has a brand new young adult romance now available – check it out! Now, on to the delicious reason we're blogging today. Barbequeing is something we love to do here in Northern BC. In fact, we barbeque throughout the year, even when the snow is thick on the ground. Many of my favourite recipes come from 365 Great Barbecue and Grilling Recipes by Lonnie Gandara. My family's absolute favourite is Canton-Style Spareribs. 4 pounds pork spareribs ½ cup soy sauce 2 tbsp dry sherry 3 tbsp crushed pineapple 2 tbsp sugar 2 tbsp honey 2 garlic gloves (this is what the recipe calls for, but I usually put in 6 to 8, because we LOVE garlic) 1 tsp salt Put the ribs in a shallow pan. Mix the rest of the ingredients together. Pour over ribs. Marinate, turning occasionally, 1 to 2 hours at room temperature or up to 24 hours refrigerated. (Note: sometimes, when ribs are on sale, I mix up multiple batches of the marinade, put the ribs in a heavy duty resealable freezer bag, pour in the marinade, let sit for an hour or so, and the freeze. When I want to cook them, I take them out the day before and let them thaw in the fridge. Presto – ready to cook!) Grill ribs SLOWLY over a medium-hot fire (about 1 hour). Simply delish! I'm doing the hop myself and collecting all the recipes. Maybe I'll have an RWW BBQ this summer! Let's see what tasty treat A.S. Fenichel is sharing with us today.

The Romance Writers Weekly Blog Hop this week is courtesy of Kathryn Fox: Time to start planning your summer vacation! Share someplace you've traveled to that you recommend as a great vacation destination. I think this is a great topic. My family loves to travel, and we're always looking for new places to visit. And it also gives me a chance to promote the great place where I live - Northern British Columbia - our favourite summer destination! In the winter, we like to escape the cold and snow with a quick airplane ride somewhere warm and sandy. But in the summer, we don't have to go any further than down the road trip to find an amazing summer vacation. We love to camp (either in our trailer or renting a cabin) at one of our areas many, many lakes. While a lot of the world has heard of Jasper and Banff National Park in Alberta, BC has it's share of amazing natural wonders – and usually without the crowds! Here are a few photos I've taken over the years on our summer trips. Enjoy! Get your next vacation suggestion from Dani Jace! I know she's a big fan of the seaside - I wonder what she'll recommend? This week on the blog hop, I'm asking the question! I'm asking my Romance Writers Weekly pals: Describe our perfect writing space/retreat. Do you need hustle and bustle or peace and quiet? Coffee shop or secluded cabin? When I think of my perfect writing retreat, the first image that comes to mind is a small cabin on the shores of a lake with a mountain view. As I live in Northern British Columbia, I wouldn't even have to go that far to find it! I love to write outside, and there's something about the sound of water that I find soothing yet inspiring. I'd make myself a cup of coffee and sit on the porch, and just let the creativity flow. The only problem with that idyllic scene is that it is so opposite to where I normally write that I'm not sure if I'd still be able to get my job done. Normally I write with in my living room with family life going on around me. So having only peace and quiet and no distractions may actually prove to be a distraction! I wonder what Leslie dream writing retreat would be? Find out when you hop to her blog here! |
