Batman at his day job!

I’ll explain this photo in a minute. But to start…the topic on this week’s blog hop is:

Do you write full time? If not, what is your day job?

No, I don’t write full time. But I don’t have a day job, either.

When I have a manuscript on the go, I usually spend a few hours every morning writing, then an hour or two later that day on doing author business things like my newsletter, prepping social media posts, and marketing. If I don’t have a work in progress (like now) I still spend a few hours everyday on the non-writing side of things. Sometimes I also have freelance editing jobs that I do for a publishing company or other authors.

Through excellent financial planning (by my husband more than me, LOL) and a little good luck, Mr. C and I were able to retire from our day jobs in January 2020. Though we didn’t know it was coming, of course, COVID hit two months later. While it put a crimp in our travel plans, it certainly was a blessing not to have to worry about working while in lockdown.

​Now, to the photo. Before retiring, I worked at the local radio and television station. I was there for more than thirty years, mostly in the Creative Department. This was the team of writers, photographers, producers, and editors who created local commercials. One of our photographers was an avid Batman fan. He used to visit children in hospital wearing his costume, and, of course, when Halloween came around, he wore it to work. I laugh every time I see this photo that I took one year.

I published several books while working full time, doing all my writing in the evenings and weekends. But I much prefer having the flexibility of no day-job commitments. Also, it gives me time with the grandkids!
