Describe a typical family gathering - a birthday celebration, a nothing special dinner, Thanksgiving, Christmas or other holiday. Whatever gathering you like!

With adult children, you never know where their lives will take them. We are blessed that all three of ours have (so far, fingers crossed) stayed put, LOL. Which means we have lots of opportunities for family get-togethers. Just this past weekend we celebrated Grandson #1’s third birthday!

Our gatherings are loud and confusing and usually have more food than we can consume. Birthdays are generally casual – no bouncy castles or costumed clowns, just friends and family talking, laughing, and playing. For many years, our house was the go-to place for extended family celebrations like Christmas, Easter, and anniversaries. But now our children are settled into their own homes, the centre of the festivities sometimes moves in that direction. It doesn’t matter. The main point is that we are together.

The menu varies widely – from hamburgers on the grill to traditional Portuguese recipes. My mom is generally in charge of desserts, though my second daughter and our son’s girlfriend enjoy baking as well. Which is a good thing, because that is not my forte!
