This week on the Blog Hop, we've been asked to talk about our pets and how they help our writing. With pictures, please.

Over the years, we’ve had both cats and dogs. I like them both for different reasons. Cats are independent and don’t mind being left alone for a few days. Dogs are happy when you come home and are a good excuse to get out of the house for a walk.

Currently, we have one dog. Aspen is a beagle-spaniel cross with some odd quirks but we love her anyway. I can’t say she is particularly helpful with my writing, but she does keep me company, lying beside me as I work.

Animals have comedic roles in a number of my books, including a horse in NO LIFE BUT THIS, a Bernese Mountain dog named Chaucer in WHEN TIME FALLS STILL, and Mutt, a canine of indeterminate breeding in GATEWAY CRESCENT. I love writing about animals - they can showcase a character's personality and make us laugh, all at the same time.
