Choose a photo that you’ve taken and that you love. Tell the story behind the photo.

Hi. I’m Brenda, and I’m a photo-aholic.

Even before cameras in phones, I took a lot of photos. But the digital age makes it SO EASY to go overboard, LOL! On our recent trip to Spain, I took about 300 photos a week. That’s more than 70 a day.

Yes. I have a problem. But I don’t mind going through all those photos and choosing the best ones to put in an album (or publish in a photo book, which is what I’ve done recently). So it’s no one concern but mine how many photos I take!

It made this week’s challenge particularly difficult, though. How can I possibly choose just one?

In this end, I went with the above image from Palm Sunday in Málaga. And I couldn’t resist sneaking in a second one as well.​

I couldn't get back far enough to show all the men carrying this float. But this gives you a good idea. There were four rows of bearers!

Holy Week, the week leading up to Easter Sunday, is of particular importance to Catholics. In Málaga (and hundreds of communities around the world) it is recognized by processions which display statues of Jesus and Mary. While there is a festive air around the procession, I was also struck by the reverence and penitence of those taking part.

This float, portraying the arrival of Jesus into Jerusalem just days before his crucifixion, was carried by dozens of men. From the effort they put into it and the very slow progress they made (rest breaks, I am sure) I believe the gold on it is real. The procession lasted for several hours and wound through narrow, ancient streets. I am so glad we had the chance to experience this amazing endeavour!
