Love can strike at any time and in any place. But even so, the setting of a romance novel can be vital to the story. Readers have come to expect certain things if you book is set in a small town or on a tropical island, for example.

This week on the Blog Hop, we’re discussing where we set our books and why.

My answer is very boring. When I first starting writing, I knew I had a lot to learn about making interesting characters and compelling plots. To make it easier on myself, I decided to set my stories where I live, so I didn’t have to worry about creating a whole new world on top of everything else.

Since I write contemporary, that works just fine. I can use places and names I am familiar with, and if I need to make up something, I do.

It also allows me to share a part of the world that I love with my readers. I enjoy reading books set in other countries, and I am sure other readers do, too. This way, they can sample a few of the places and locations I love so much.
