Desert Island Reads - Romance Writers Weekly - #lovechatwrite

​I never considered my self a terribly social creature, but the last few months have shown me that I may have taken for granted the joy of simply sitting and talking with someone face to face. Which makes this week’s blog hop topic a little...unsettling. Leslie Hachtel asks:

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three books would you want with you and why?

I suppose a deserted island would be the ultimate in social distancing, wouldn’t it? 😊 Not very long ago I might have yearned for a chance to read uninterrupted by other human beings, but it doesn’t seem quite as appealing right now. That being said, here’s my list:

1. SURVIVE! By Les Stroud Maybe I’m not taking this topic in quite the manner Leslie intended, but really – if you’re going to be stranded without basic necessities, should the first book you take with you be a survival book? I enjoyed watching Les Stroud’s TV series, because it was the only one that felt authentic to me. He had no camera crew, no support team, nothing other than his own skills, ingenuity and resilience. His book would be first on my list.
2. Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen I have read this book so many times already that it might seem an unlikely choice. Why bring something I am so familiar with? But that would be the point. A comfort read would be an absolutely must while I waited to be rescued.
3. A Blank Journal Again, this might not be exactly what Leslie had in mind when she said “books,” but I think this would be an absolute must. I wouldn’t use it only to record the days, but to jot down ideas, craft scenes, and make plans. As a writer, putting words on a page would be vital to maintaining my good mental health.
