Do you have favorite writing tools or things that are a must while you write (particular pen, scent, sound, etc)

I spent much of my non-author career as a writer/producer of television commercials working in a large open office with music playing, phones ringing, people going in and out, conversations yelled over my head, and such. And during those years, when I was writing at home, my space was my laptop on my knees in the living room, with family life revolving around me.

So no particular sound is necessary for me—but it did take me a while to get used to writing in the quiet!!

I usually have a cup of coffee (which goes cold more often than not) and a bottle of water beside me. But I don’t listen to music, have a favourite pen (mostly because I type everything – my handwriting is atrocious), or light candles.

I do find it gets my creative juices going to write somewhere other than my desk. Even though our spring has been rather cold this year, I bundle up with a wool blanket, scarf, and hat and write outside when it’s not too miserable.
